Creating a Workflow for your Fantasy Baseball Hobby
Okay, your drafts are wrapping up, let’s navigate the weekly workflow for our hobby so the Mrs doesn’t get mad at us. If you’re married, you know that “look”…… when you walk out from your lair, after a five hour auction draft. Yeah, I’m getting married next month and it turns out she was less enthusiastic about my Judge, Tatis, Kurtz, and Turang build than I but since I’m an emotionally mature, self-aware man (wink wink), I’m prepared to do something about it.
Organize Your Leagues
Open up your trusty spreadsheet and type all your leagues
Color code all of the leagues by Free Agency format
FAAB leagues are green for money
Waiver process leagues are yellow
Draft and Hold leagues are red
Open pick up leagues are blue
Now format them into separate columns based on WHEN you set the lineup
Daily leagues
Weekly
Bi-weekly
Identify Needs / Weaknesses
If you’re thorough, you’ve run projections and know where your light
Make notes about how you see the roster and update those weekly
“Looking for Middle depth”
“Need runs”
Be thorough in your watchlist
Search for archetypes that match may be able to replace your fringy players
If you own a category winner like Simpson can you stash a replacement
Is the “next man up” available for your closers
Load the list up with all probable closers
Build your FAAB list throughout the week
When you have a clear drop, just go and put a few names down with $1 bids for that player. Try not to wait till Sunday to fill out your whole list
Sunday you should be able to just adjust prices and maybe rearrange your names
Every 2 weeks, check your pace
You can just do a broad view of your team or filter your expectations for each player
Divide your category targets by 26 weeks and then again by the number of starters you play
Adjust those accordingly to suit your roster if you’re so inclined
My goal this season is to dedicate a small amount of time daily to this task, preventing it from consuming hours on Sunday. What do you think? Are there strategies you use that manage your time better? I’d like to stay married once it’s official
